Anaheim, California, 19 January 2012 – At NAMM in Anaheim, audio specialist Sennheiser is launching its brand new XS Wireless Series. Designed for users who want to go wireless in an easy way, this entry-level series offers complete sets with sturdy units, simple operation and high quality sound. The transmitters have a battery life of up to 10 hours, while a switching bandwidth of up to 24 MHz allows for flexibility in the choice of frequencies. The series is comprised of two vocal sets, an instrument system and presentation sets with clip-on microphone or a headmic.

With the XS Wireless Series, Sennheiser offers reliability and quality sound at an entry-level price, explained Martin Fischer, Product Manager for Sennheiser’s wireless systems. “It offers good value for money and will benefit small event and conference venues, houses of worship as well as bands, vocalists and musicians.”

Wireless without a fuss
The designers have focused on ease of use: the systems are operated via intuitive menus, they automatically search for free frequencies, and transmitters are synchronised with their receivers via a wireless link. “We wanted to make sure that users can fully concentrate on their performance, their speech, etc. without having to worry too much about the set-up and technology,” said Martin Fischer.

Extras for bands…
XS Wireless includes two systems for vocalists and one instrument set for guitarists. Vocalists can choose between a handheld with a super-cardioid condenser capsule and one that includes a genuine dynamic e 835 capsule. “The XSW 35 system takes the assertive sound of the cardioid e 835 to new user groups,” added Martin Fischer.

… and speakers
For installed sound applications and presentations, users can choose between systems with a handheld transmitter or a bodypack transmitter with either a head-worn mic or an unobtrusive clip-on microphone. Mute buttons on the handheld and the bodypack ensure that speakers are in control of the transmission.

Ruggedness and flexibility
To withstand the rigours of daily use, the true-diversity receiver is housed in a sturdy metal case. In the transmitters, one set of batteries will last for up to ten hours – not only good for energetic stage shows, but also for long events and conferences. The systems feature freely tunable frequencies within a switching bandwidth of 24 MHz (13 MHz for the E frequency range). This allows up to 12 wireless links to be operated simultaneously, ensuring trouble-free operation even at somewhat larger events.

At Midas, we know what it takes to design and build live sound consoles for the world’s most demanding tours and installations. One look at the VeniceFconfirms that this console is continuing the legacy established by the groundbreaking XL3 and XL4 consoles, then consolidated in the industry-leading Heritage series. From the VeniceF’s horizontal fader panel, through the class-leading parametric EQ filters, to the latest expression of that legendary Midas mic pre, this is a console without compromise. Features are apparent everywhere, some of which are unheard of on consoles of this modest footprint.

The bus structure remains true to the original Venice concept. Six aux sends, four groups and stereo masters. The F model adds an additional mono bus and a 7 x 2 matrix. All bus outputs feature XLR connectors and insert capability. Routing options have been expanded from the outgoing model too. VeniceF has individual routing to groups, all six aux sends are individually switchable pre or post fade, and the two aux buses designated as monitor (foldback) sends are also switchable pre/post EQ on an individual channel basis.

Mono Input Mono inputs pack a host of features, starting with the indispensible Midas mic pre, still crafted from discrete components, rather than the cheaper IC option. The 15mm gain pot is surrounded by a quartet of switches, +48V, -20dB pad, polarity reverse and 80Hz hi-pass. A further pair of switches select analogue or digital (FW) input and analogue or digital (FW) direct out pre or post EQ. Switches with LED status indicators are provided for insert and EQ in/out. The equaliser section is an updated XL3 design, featuring four bands of swept Midas eq, with the addition of variable bandwith on the two midrange filters. All input channels, groups and masters feature high precision 100mm faders.

Stereo Input Stereo inputs have two mic and two line inputs each. Mic inputs feature separate gain for left and right inputs, and the same mic amp functions as the mono inputs. Both mic and line inputs can be used simultaneously, with the line inputs routed direct to masters, while the mic inputs route via the channel. Stereo channels have four-band fixed frequency eq, and a sum-to-mono switch.

Hybrid VeniceF bridges the gap between analogue and digital audio consoles, and offers the user the ease-of-use, warmth, feel, and zero-latency of analogue, combined with the power, choice and flexibility of outboard digital processing.

FireWire® The FireWire interface can be used with any computer fitted with a 1394 port, and is effectively a 64-channel (32×32) digital audio snake, which connects directly to your computer, allowing the use of any 3rd party audio processing software in conjunction with the console. Applications include multitrack recording from the VeniceF’s digital direct outputs, software-generated FX processors driven from aux sends or direct outputs, “plug-ins” inserted on input channel FireWire send/returns. All with a heart of pure Midas.

Software Although the FireWire interface will work with nearly all computer-based audio processing software, included in every VeniceFpackage is a free 60-day trial version of RECORD, by Propellerhead. This software suite includes multitrack recording (up to 64 tracks), virtual racks full of FX and dynamics processing, and even a software mixer, which can be patched in parallel with the analogue VeniceF permitting full external digital processing of each VeniceF input channel.

Mechanical Many manufacturers cut quality when they design small mixers. At Midas we understand that modest channel count doesn’t have to mean compromised performance and a poor feature set. The VeniceF embodies quality, from its rugged construction and top-of-the-range components through to the unmistakable Midas sound, it is obviously a truly professional audio console. The frame is a typical Midas steel section, providing sufficient strength and rigidity for a hard life on the road. Potentiometers are metal-shafted, and individually nutted to the steel fascia panel. The console is finished in the well-known Midas livery, with the addition of striking metallic corner protector inserts.

Although specifically designed for live sound, the audio performance, and the addition of a FireWire digital audio interface mean that the VeniceF is equally at home in recording and remixing applications.

TASCAM is debuting fourteen new products at booth #219 of the AES convention in New York. The product mix includes everything from high-end recorders for professionals to entry-level products for musicians just starting out in recording. All of the new products will be shipping in October or November, in time for holiday sales and end-of-year purchasing.

US-2000

TASCAM’s premiere multi-channel interface is the US-2000, a 16 in/4 out USB interface that fits in only one rackspace. The US-2000 has eight XLR mic inputs with phantom power, enough to record a large band or drumset. An additional six balanced 1/4″ line inputs are provided for synths, amp modelers and effects processors. Stereo S/PDIF digital inputs and outputs bring the total to 16 inputs that can be recorded simultaneously.

DP-008

TASCAM culminates 30 years of Portastudio Recording with the DP-008, a portable 8-track recorder for all musicians. TASCAM’s DP-008 is an eight-track recorder that captures CD-quality audio, two tracks at a time. You can use built-in microphones to grab ideas, plug condenser mics into the XLR inputs or plug a guitar directly in to lay tracks. There’s even a metronome and chromatic tuner built-in for tight-sounding tracks. The DP-008 also allows you to digitally bounce tracks to make room for more, and touches like editing and undo make recording stress-free.

US-122MKII

TASCAM has refreshed its best-selling USB interface with better audio specs and a fresh new look for the US-122mkII. The US-122mkII starts with two great-quality XLR microphone preamps with phantom power for condenser microphones. There’s also a pair of balanced line inputs and a guitar-level in for direct recording of electric guitar or bass. The stereo signal is sent to your computer at up to 96kHz/24-bit audio quality.

US-144MKII

The most popular TASCAM 4-channel USB audio interface has been updated with better audio specs and a fresh new look for the US-144mkII. The US-144mkII starts with two great-quality XLR microphone preamps with phantom power for condenser microphones. There’s also a pair of balanced line inputs and a guitar-level in for direct recording of electric guitar or bass. A pair of S/PDIF digital inputs and outputs is also included, for a total of four inputs and outputs at up to 96kHz/24-bit audio quality.

HS-P82

TASCAM’s HS-P82 offers 8 tracks of the highest quality recording, yet it’s built for the rigors of location recording with reliable solid-state performance. The HS-P82 is built for location television and film production audio, with eight microphone inputs for big shoots or reality programs. The standard XLR microphone inputs include phantom power and analog limiting, with trims controlled from recessed front-panel controls. In addition to the eight individual tracks, a stereo mixdown can be recorded for instant use during editing.

US-100

TASCAM’s US-100 breaks the price barrier for great-quality recording into your computer. The microphone input captures great-sounding performances, or you can plug in your guitar or bass directly into the instrument-level input. Stereo line inputs can be switched to RIAA phono level for digitizing your vinyl collection from your favorite turntable. The USB 2.0 connection guarantees playback without hiccups on your Mac or Windows computer, and the compact aluminum construction withstands the hazards of the road, studio or dorm room.

CD-200i

TASCAM’s CD-200i is a unique combination of rackmountable CD player with a dock for Apple’s iPod music player. The CD player uses the new TEAC CD-5020A transport, custom-designed for audio playback with a smooth loading drawer and low clamping noise. The internal clock has been improved for a smoother sound and decreased jitter.

Track Pack X1

The TASCAM PT-7 is a unique combination chromatic tuner, metronome and memo recorder for acoustic and electric musicians. The tuner features a high-speed graphic display, ideal for students to find their pitch on wind and string instruments, and an oscillator tone can also play for pitch reference. The metronome plays through the built-in speaker or headphone out and includes a visual display to keep the beat.

TASCAM smashes the barrier to solid-state recording with the SS-R05, a compact new recorder for installation and live recording. Based on TASCAM’s top-selling SS-R1, the SS-R05 strips down to basics to reach a price point within reach of any installation or house of worship.

TASCAM’s BB-800 makes recording as simple as hitting record on a boombox. Because that’s what it is – a simple recorder with built-in mics and speakers. The BB-800 records to SD Cards, the same inexpensive media used in digital cameras and cellphones. Capture to either high-res WAV files or MP3 and transfer it to your computer using high-speed USB 2.0.
