San Luis Rey Valley United Methodist Church in Oceanside, Calif. recently upgraded their sound system with new equipment from Electro-Voice. The installation was designed and implemented by Murrieta, California-based CBC Technical, Inc. Chris Batchelor, Sales Manager for CBC, comments:

“The church was making a transition from more traditional, classical type music to more contemporary services, and wanted to upgrade their sound system to handle that transition. The staff was looking for something with solid, full-bandwidth response that would help their band sound the best.”

“Tour X and DC-One are both cool new additions to the EV product range,” says Batchelor. “They offer a ton of performance for their price point. And because the equipment was so cost-effective, we were able to meet the church’s budget and really exceed their expectations. QRx is always a good choice for any installation like this, because they have a nice warm, full sound to them straight out of the box. Again, they offer incredible value for what they deliver in audio quality. And the Tour X wedges that we included also provide great bang for the buck – they’re tiny little boxes, but they sound amazing!”

Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, Calif. recently replaced their original gymnasium sound system with brand-new equipment from Electro-Voice. CBC Technical, Inc. of Murrieta, Calif. designed and installed the state-of-the-art system, which comprises a flown, horizontal cluster of four ZX5 loudspeakers powered by a single CP4000S amplifier, with a DC-One loudspeaker processor, and an RE-2 Wireless system with one RE97TX and two RE-2 handheld microphones. Chris Batchelor, Sales Manager for CBC, comments:

“This is an input to output EV system that balances excellent audio performance with great value. The ZX5s look and sound great and have plenty of power handling. We configured them so the center two boxes were paired and the outer two boxes were paired – the gym pretty much has just a mono system, which is great for all the vocal activities they do in the space like speeches, lectures, meetings, and announcements – your normal high school gym activities. It’s a simple setup with high-grade components – worry free and built to last.” The EV equipment replaces a 70-volt system that had been used in the gym for 20 years.

“Monte Vista is amazed by the difference,” adds Batchelor. “When they heard the warm, rounded sound it absolutely floored them – the intelligibility and coverage is excellent.”

CBC Technical recently designed and installed a small television studio for a major golf equipment manufacturer. The project was a complete success. Utilizing a combination of products from all of the American DJ group of companies, CBC was able to provide a quality product well within the established budget. Project manager Nathaniel Pitcher thought the project was a great success saying: “It was great being able to get everything from one source. The support from the companies has been outstanding.”

Truss was provided from Global Truss. Installation was very easy, even within the compact space of this small office building. In addition, Global’s unique line of truss furniture was a perfect match to complete the look of the set. The client was thrilled beyond their expectations, saying: “It actually looks like a real studio.”

The Par 36 LED from American DJ allows great flexibility in changing the mood of the set. LED truss warmers were placed at every junction to really make the set shine. Their compact size and beam angle provided excellent coverage of the truss without spilling onto the rest of the set.

One of the challenges of turning a small office space into a television studio is the huge amount of power usually required for professional studio lighting. Along with the problem of  finding sufficient power was the amount of heat that typical studio fixtures give off. They simply would not work in a small space such as this. CBC overcame this challenge with Elation’s Design LED 36WA. The high output LEDs ran cool using hardly any power. They also gave the advantage of having remotely adjustable color temperature and intensity.

Bringing everything together was a Scene Setter controller from Elation and dmx cable from Accu-Cable. The Scene Setter’s flexibility and ease of use was unmatched by any controller in its price range.

Murrieta, CA – When Cheri Gorin, director of The Dancers’ Studio in Hemet, California needed to purchase wireless microphones for an upcoming production, she turned to the staff of CBC Technical in Murrieta. Chris Batchelor presented her with various options to meet her needs before she selected RE-2 UHF wireless systems from Electro-Voice with RE97 MiniMic headworn elements. While offered at an attractive price point, the RE-2 systems still provide full functionality, including real gain adjustment, a feature not found in some competing products.

Working within a shortened time-frame, the professionals at CBC Technical were able to get the gear in-house, assembled into a turnkey system, programmed, tested and delivered in just a few days. The internal power supply of the antenna and power distribution systems (APD4+) allowed the rack to be kept clear of bulky power supplies. A Horizon 12 channel snake was provided for easy hookup and to eliminate the need for casual access to the back of the rack eliminating accidental hookup errors.

Fallbrook, CA – Opening in April of 2006, the Arbor Terrace Pavilion and its surrounding waterfalls and gardens are the newest attraction at the Grand Tradition Estate. The casual and relaxing atmosphere, tranquil beauty, and open air feel are just a few of the unique features that set Arbor Terrace apart. Gently swaying palms, fragrant Plumeria and Champaca blossoms, and cascading waterfalls create an Eden like feel that is simply divine. Beautiful bridges, expansive lawns, whimsical water fountains, and statuaries all combine to enhance the gardens natural beauty. The Arbor Terrace Pavilion features arched French style windows, a fabric draped canopy on the ceiling, and is accented with airy floral draped arbors.

CBC Technical was pleased to be offered the opportunity to build sound, lighting and video systems for the Grand Tradition. CBC already had a good understanding of the requirements for Arbor Terrace from working with the Grand Tradition for nearly a decade, but still spent the time to ensure that the installed systems would met or exceed requirements and expectations. Systems were needed for both the wedding site and the pavilion and eventually will include background music and paging applications throughout the expansive gardens. CBC designed the systems with ease of setup and integration with other on site systems in mind allowing for redundancy and ease of training on site staff.

The wedding/waterfall location consists of two Electro-Voice ZX1i-90 speakers permanently installed and one SbA 760+ powered subwoofer. An audio snake along with speaker cable and power was installed in weatherproof boxes to keep the setup simple and the area as free as possible from cable clutter. In addition to meeting the needs of in house audio crews, the snake was designed with outside vendors in mind as well, allowing videographers to route microphones through underground cabling and get a feed from the house console in convenient locations.

Front of house is stocked with a Soundcraft GB8 24 channel audio console to provide ample aux sends for IEM systems for the live keyboardist as well as other musicians and singers as needed. Processing is done through an Ashly Protea System II 4.24G 4 Ch graphic EQ/processor, although the actual system is largely unprocessed. Playback is provided through Denon DN-C635 and DN-C615 CD/MP3 players. A TC Electronic M-One XL provides FX as needed. An Ashly PE 2400 Amplifier powers the ZX1’s. Shure’s UHF-R wireless systems are used for lavaliere microphones on the officiant as well as the groom (or other speakers) as well as Beta 87A handhelds for other performers. A live keyboardist typically plays a Roland RD-500, although brides are able to provide other sources of accompaniment such as string quartets or provide all the music on CD.

The pavilion has four EV ZX1i-90w speakers flown to provide even coverage throughout the venue. There is independent control of front and rear speakers to allow greater sound output at the dance floor than at the rear of the room, although reception DJ’s are required to bring their own speakers. While the zx1’s have impressive low end for a single 8” LF, they can be supplemented by the Sba760 powered subwoofer when extra low end is needed. The pavilion also features a Sanyo PLC-XP51 4000 lumen XGA video projector and Da-Lite 150” diagonal screen for video montages, computer (PowerPoint/Keynote) presentations and Satellite TV. Typically, a small rack consisting of a Denon DN-V200 DVD player, Ashly MX-406 Mixer and QSC RMX2450 amplifier powers the pavilion system, although the larger FOH rack can be used when extra inputs or processing are required. Also provided in the pavilion are 8 Elation Opti Par lighting fixtures to allow the pavilion to be washed in colors to correspond with the event.
