CBC Technical “Make it Personal” with Electro-Voice

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

CBC Technical deployed Electro-Voice sound reinforcement to help a leading fast food brand “Make it Personal” to their employees: EV XLD281 super-compact line arrays were ground-stacked along with EV Xsub subwoofers under the stage, providing warm, high-resolution sound for video rolls and corporate executives alike.

make_it_personal-3.jpgHaving carefully planned their deployment using EV’s LAPS (Line Array Prediction Software) back at their shop, CBC’s system design delivered even coverage throughout the soundstage, as well as reducing the impact on sightlines: “XLD was chosen for its amazing size and weight to performance ratio, which helped our staff minimize the time required to setup this show,” says Chris Batchelor, Production Manager. “That was exceptionally important at this event, due to timing restrictions and the amount of time the crew was allocated for load-in.”

XLD at San Diego Nighttime Zoo

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Part of the San Diego Zoo’s “Nighttime Zoo” summer program, “Talamasca—Jungle Myths and Legends,” is new jungle-themed acrobatic show at the zoo’s Hunte Amphitheatre. CBC Technical, Inc. provided sound reinforcement for the show, including Electro-Voice XLD very compact line arrays.

“The input end of the show is relatively simple—a DVD player providing four channels of audio along with timecode,” says Scott Chester of CBC. “The steep and deep shape of the venue and noise restrictions outside means a balance of complete, controlled vertical and horizontal coverage and intelligibility is essential—something the zoo felt the program was lacking last year. The XLD is proving the ideal solution.”

Arrays of seven XLD are flown each side, each over two ground-stacked X-subs for low-end support. EV CP4000S amplifiers handle the power, Dx38 the processing. “This whole system is so easy to set up: the flying hardware is great and the boxes sound superb with minimal tweaking—amazing definition and coverage. XLD is a lot of loudspeaker in a small package. I attended the show preview, which was attended by the zoo executives. They were all very happy with the sound—they told us it was the best they’d heard in years!”

The show runs nightly at 8:30 through September 2nd.

CBC Technical Purchases Shure UHF-R

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

Fallbrook, CA - CBC Technical, Incorporated just completed the purchase of 20 channels of Shure UHF-R wireless microphones. The microphones will be used for rentals as well as used on CBC’s own shows.

Audio engineer Nathaniel Pitcher was easily able to setup the receivers for their first show - Footloose by Act 1 Theater Arts - using Shure’s Wireless Workbench and the receiver’s built in ethernet ports. The IR sync allowed quick and easy setup of the transmitters via the settings stored in the receivers. Pictured below is FOH engineer Nathaniel Pitcher running the Soundcraft MH2-48 at the Bob Burton Center for the show.

It is believed that CBC’s stock of 20 channels of Shure’s top of the line UHF-R is to be one of the largest, if not the largest, in San Diego County. CBC plans to offer the systems to meet customers need with various handheld and bodypack configurations including the new KSM9.

For more information about Shure’s UHF-R offerings, visit Shure.com. If you’re interested in renting, please call (877) 4-CBC-TECH or email rentals@cbctechnical.com. If you’d like to purchase some UHF-R of your own, please contact CBC Technical.
